As an email copywriter I can no longer read like a normal person. Any time I read a news article, blog post, piece of junk mail, a book or anything at all, I’m constantly thinking of ways to use what I’m reading in an email.

There are three resources I use that I find particularly helpful in this regard. One is Bottom Line Personal by Boardroom Inc. It’s a newsletter that arrives every two weeks by mail and has short practical articles about saving money, investing, health, inspiration, etc. I always find statistics and nuggets in each issue that I can use in my copywriting. Also, their bullets are awesome.

Another is the Daily Stat by Harvard Business Publishing. This is a free daily email with a statistic on a wide variety of topics. I sometimes use these as the basis for an entire email and then write a story or product promotion around it.

I also like visiting the Huffington Post blog throughout the day. HuffPo updates their news headlines several times per day and the headlines are usually compelling. Plus the news stories give me a good sense of the hot topics of the day and I can work that into my copy.

How about you? What do you use for copywriting inspiration? Please feel free to post a comment.
